The Divas Ride in July

By DJ Jones

Nineteen Divas strong, we met at Weck's, our usual spot for coffee. But something seemed different; the intensity was unbelievably strong on this day. Everyone came ready, ready to ride.

We had small bikes, big bikes, and everything in between. The bike made no difference—everyone had the same energy. Since no one wanted to hang around too long, so we saddled up and headed south on Louisiana to Old 66 and then headed east.

We intended to take our first break in Moriarty. We stopped for a while, but I could feel the ladies were ready to roll, and we did.

This was the Diva's third ride, and each group of women has been different. This particular group of Divas was different too, but in a good way—they rode together as if each was an extension of the other. It was a perfect example of group riding. Just awesome!

We were a little over 50 miles from our lunch stop, 50 miles of mountain views, beautiful skies, warm breezes. And the Divas? Well, we rocked. Our route took us up Highway 41, through the old almost ghost towns of Stanley and Gallisteo and within a stone’s throw of Lamy. Lamy is the closest the Santa Fe Railroad comes to Santa Fe…about 20 miles. We got on I-25 for the last push into Santa Fe.

We pulled into the parking lot of Carrow's Restaurant on St. Michael's Blvd. Before going inside, I flagged someone down to take a group picture of the Divas and their machines on their day. The room we had reserved was ready, and so were we—it was time for food and fun. Lunch was great and so was the company.

There was a gas station next to the restaurant, and those who needed to topped up their tanks. Now it was time to cruise, down South 14 toward Madrid. What a fun road 14 is, either North or South. No matter how many times you ride it, it's always worth the trip.

The Divas rode from Santa Fe to Albuquerque on South 14, savoring the last miles of the ride together.

And it was another successful ride. Another day to remember. We will ride again next month, make new friends, and instill new memories that will last a lifetime.

The Divas always seem to amaze me. They are great women, teachers and caretakers. I feel honored to call them my friends. So if you are a new or experienced rider, come ride with the Divas. You will be in good company, you will be taken care of, and you will become a better rider.

These are the women who made up the special group of Divas I had the pleasure of riding with. They are the ones responsible for a rockin' good time. Thanks to: Jean G., Kristi & her little Diva (Ridley), Karin B., Celia Lynn, Cheryl P., Tina D., Teri A., Ramina P., Linda L., Toni H., Celene R., Nanette D., Victoria, Cookie, Charisse, Anita R., Shari M. and Cheryl E.

Thanks also to Weck's and Carrow's for their friendly service. Thanks also to my friends at MotorSport for providing a comfortable environment for women motorcyclists.

So ladies, bring your bikes, your joy of adventure, and your lust for life. You are cordially invited to ride with the Divas. Get out there and Ride Divas, Ride.
